2008 OU Clarinet Symposium

YOUNG ARTISTS’ COMPETITION

 

**NEW** First Prize is a Forté C Clarinet!

 The OU Clarinet Symposium is proud to host a Young Artists’ Competition each year.  From a preliminary round of taped auditions, several talented players are selected as finalists. These finalists are awarded free tuition and invited to attend the Symposium. The final round of competition is held at the Symposium in front of judges and a live audience, and the winners are announced and prizes awarded at intermission of the Friday evening concert at the Symposium.


Age Limit

§       must be under 18 (contestant must not have reached their 18th birthday as of June 1, 2008)

§       Movement I of Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, by Francis Poulenc

 

Preliminary Audition Round

§       Those who wish to be selected for the final round are required to make a CD recording of the full first movement of the Poulenc Sonata  (with piano accompaniment).

§       Audition Deadline: CDs must be received by May 10, 2008

Accompaniment

§       Piano accompaniment is required at all levels of competition

§       The OU Clarinet Symposium will provide a pianist to accompany the final round of competition (rehearsal time with staff accompanist is subject to availability).

 

Final Round of Competition

§       Competitions finals will be held June 6, 2008, at 12pm in Pitman Recital Hall and are open to the public

First Prize

§       Cash Prize

§       Forté C Clarinet (retail price, over $800!). This instrument is pitched in the key of C but plays like a smaller B-flat clarinet. Designed for professional use, grenadilla wood with silver-plated keys. To see this and other products, visit:
