2011 YOUNG ARTISTS’ COMPETITION


Students are eligible if they have not yet reached their 19th birthday by June 17, 2011.

The OU Clarinet Symposium is proud to host a Young Artists’ Competition each year. We listen to CD auditions and invite several talented clarinetists perform in the final round, held at our event in Norman. The prizes are awarded publicly, and the first place winner receives the opportunity to perform in recital on the main stage at the Symposium.

Applicants should mail application form, $25 application fee, and CD recording of the preliminary round selection, which must be received by May 16, 2011.

Preliminary Round Selection
The piece selected for this year’s preliminary CD round is to be announced.

Finalists
Finalists will be notified by email, and are awarded free tuition to attend the 2011 Symposium. The final round will take place on June 17, 2011 at 12 PM in Pitman Recital Hall and is open to the public. The selection for the final round will be announced soon.

Prizes
The winners will be announced and prizes awarded at intermission of the Friday evening concert at the Symposium. All finalists will receive a certificate and a clarinet goody bag for participating.

1st Place: The winner will receive a cash prize and the opportunity to perform at the Symposium. 
2nd Place: Reed Wizard, donated by Mr. Ben Armato (retail price, $275.00)
3rd Place: Perfectareed, donated by Mr. Ben Armato (retail price, $225.00)

Guidelines

  Contestants must not have reached their 19th birthday by June 18, 2011 
  Piano accompaniment is required at all levels of competition. The OU Clarinet Symposium will provide a pianist to accompany the final round of competition (rehearsal time with staff accompanist is subject to availability).
  Memorization is not required
